Communicator is a complete VoIP solution where core functionality is hosted and maintained on the telephone network rather than an internal system on site.
Application
Communicator is a complete VoIP package including site hardware (handsets and router) and the telephone service. It offers a viable alternative to a costly site PBX solution for sites of up to fifty individual handsets wishing to make up to thirty simultaneous calls. It is also suited for multi-site SMEs and home workers wishing to achieve the same functionality whether at home or in the office.
Features & Benefits
With a Communicator solution there is no need for maintenance of a PBX as the functionality is instead hosted outside the customer's premises on the telephone network. This also means that it is entirely scalable to suit the customer needs. Furthermore when service upgrades such as new features are applied to the Communicator servers these are automatically delivered to all handsets of all users.
Requirements
Where Access Method is ADSL connection (<10 simultaneous calls) a suitable analog telephone line is required. This must be clear of special features such as RedCare, DACS, Featureline and Switchboards. Where SDSL is the chosen Access Method (<30 simultaneous calls) the End User's site should be no further than 3km from the local BT Exchange. The availability of either type of circuit is subject to further surveys and line tests.
Access
A number of Communicator voice calls and the associated signaling will usually be carried by a DSL service. The best access method can be determined from the number of simultaneous VoIP calls that are required. For up to ten simultaneous calls Swains Assured ADSL is a highly-reliable and cost-effective solution available in 99.95% of locations. For higher capacity we suggest SDSL or Ethernet connectivity
Numbers & Porting
It is possible to port most UK Geographic numbers to the Communicator platform. The Calling Line Identifier (telephone number) that is presented on outgoing calls must be a UK Geographic number that has been ported to the carrier's IP telephony platform. For new numbers, ranges are available for all UK area codes.
