SDSL...

Description

SDSL is a broadband service that runs over the conventional analog telephone network. However, although SDSL runs over a telephone line like ADSL does, SDSL does not have a telephone number and standard voice calls are not possible.

Application

SDSL data circuits are suitable for solutions where a significantly higher upstream speed is required. They are often used to carry VoIP traffic for systems where more than ten simultaneous calls are required.

Features & Benefits

SDSL services have the same upstream and downstream speeds. These are usually 512kbps, 1Mbps and 2Mbps in both directions. Where a customer’s site is covered by an LLU Exchange then further options may be available and Swains are happy to quote for solutions based on specific customer requirements.

Requirements

SDSL availability is subject to the length and quality of cabling between the customer’s site and their local exchange. Typically SDSL is available within 3km of exchanges where the service is offered. Circuit availability is subject to further surveys and line tests.

Access

An SDSL router is the required interface between the customer’s telephone outlet and their IT or telephone systems. Swains are able to supply these preconfigured so customers can connect them “plug-and-play” with all the login details already set up. ADSL routers are not compatible.

Summary

SDSL is a reliable mid-bandwidth solution for carrying VoIP traffic at competitive prices.
